Card 1, Side 1 This kit is designed to be an accurate, easy-to-use testing system for the chemical maintenance of pools and spas. It contains all that is necessary for Primary Testing: pH, chlorine and bromine, acid demand and total alkalinity. Carefully read all instructions before testing and treating water. Improper chemical maintenance can lead to problems such as algae growth, staining, etching, discoloration and excessive chemical consumption. Testing tips
WARNING: Never mix pool chemicals prior to addition to pools and spas. Always allow plenty of time for water circulation between the addition of different products. Chlorine and Bromine Testing Card 1, Side 2 This test kit is suitable for the testing of the disinfectants used to treat pools and spas. The color standards in the test block measure the disinfectant strength in the water; actual values of bromine and iodine may be taken from the accompanying chart. O.T.O. procedures: Chlorine and bromine testing
If the total chlorine exceeds free chlorine, subtract to determine the chloramines; if greater than 1, shock the water. Acid and pH demand Card 2, Side 1 pH test procedure
Acid demand test procedure
Repeat step 1, counting the drops, until sample color matches a color standard within the recommended pH range. Use the chart provided to determine the amount of acid needed to adjust the pH. Total alkalinity testing
For low alkalinity, add sodium bicarbonate or Alkalinity Booster to raise total alkalinity to the recommended range as needed. For high alkalinity, replace all or part of water with fresh water. Please note that that some regions have tap water which has higher total alkalinity than the recommended range. The addition of acid will help, but is limited by the pH lower limit of 7.2. For those regions, the pool and spa water should be replaced when total alkalinity is twice that of the tap water.
